Rains, Reels, and Romance
Monsoon is here and the best time to reignite romance with your partner is too. Psst! If you’re single or I say, in love with yourself (like me), there’s something for you too. Romance in rains is the concept that cinema has given to us. It’s always sensuous and passionate. Be it Hollywood or Bollywood, rains definitely set the mood, making the scene more impactful and realistic. Right from ‘Singing in the Rain’ to ‘Shree 420’, the cinema worldwide has been successful in making rainy romance a dreamy one. Furthermore, the need to show a romantic rainy scene also gave wings to the concept of creating Artificial rains. Anyway, with the natural rain showers around, it’s time for you to watch the best rainy romance scenes of all time. So, for those of you who have your soulmates to turn all your romantic dreams and fantasies into reality, and also others like me who live the story through fictional characters, here’s the list of movies with the most iconic rainy romance scenes that you cannot miss watching.
Starting with Hollywood first.
1. Singing in the Rain (1952)
The name of the film says it all. This musical romance is also a classic romantic rain movie with actors Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor, and Debbie Reynolds in the lead. Apart from its historical relevance in cinema, the movie is a must in the list of rain romance.
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
This romantic drama is a must-watch and there are several reasons to watch, but let me give you two here. First is Audrey Hepburn, the diva carries her character, Holly Golightly in a promising way and it is considered to be one of the most iconic characters to ever appear on the screen. The second reason is, of course, rains – the last kissing scene completes the movie with a happy ending.
3. Cast Away (2000)
With the chemistry between Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt, the film is romantic as rains and dramatic as it should be. The scene when he’s driving away and she follows him out into the rain and kisses him is the scene that is planning and the best of all scenes.
4. The Notebook (2004)
Who cannot fall in love with Nicholas Sparks? “The Notebook” is one of the best romantic films and my personal favorite too. The love between the young couple Allie & Noah is the part where one starts getting involved in the film. And of course, the rain scene fans the flame of love in the movie.
5. Pride and Prejudice (2005)
The film loaded with drama and romance is also, a perfect monsoon movie with its best scene, showing Mr. Darcy proposing to Lizzie in the rain by saying that he loves her.
Let’s come to Bollywood Masala now.
1. Shree 420 (1955)
Raj Kapoor and Nargis, no doubt, made a perfect pair in the film. With the scenes even relatable to our current situation and living, the film is one of the classic evergreen movies of Indian Cinema. Now talking about rains, ‘Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua Hai’ song adds the film in this list. No doubt, couples love sharing an umbrella with their loved ones like Raj Kapoor and Nargis did in the film.
2. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)
Two great legends – Kishore Kumar and Madhubala came together to make the iconic film and its song ‘Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si’ which is sung even today by the young people. However, the film is a nice choice to watch on a rainy day.
3. Mohra (1994)
Who doesn’t know all time popular dance-song ‘Tip Tip Barsa Pani’? The sizzling and sensuous Raveena makes the film worth watching. To add more fun and spice, try recreating the scene with your Raveena/Akshay Kumar.
4. Fanaa (2006)
One of the beautiful roles played by Kajol was in the film ‘Fanaa’ where she’s a blind girl and ends up falling in love with a guide, none other than Amir Khan. The songs of the movie, be it lyrics and audio and video, they set the mood to fall in love with the couple.
5. Aashiqui 2 (2013)
The first Bollywood hit of both Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor was this 'Romance in the Rains' film. The credits go to the cast, songs, and of course, rains. ‘Tum Hi Ho’ felt more romantic and appealing because of the rains.
So, it’s time to cuddle your partner or a pillow (if single) with a hot cup of coffee and to start watching ‘Romance in the Rain’ before the Cupid decides to curse you.
