Mandalas are not mere shapes

What we see today are the intrigued Mandala designs, which look fancy with intrinsic designs and fashions. In recent times, these geometrical, yet beautiful designs have gained popularity on social media. Every other art video or post you see is a unique design, more than doodling and less than sketching. Furthermore, tattoo designs and wall designs have also started including this sophisticated geometry in the option.

But, these designs have an ancient history and cultural relevance in religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. Some regularly dismiss the intricate art as superstition or folklore. While the foundation has been for a long time, it becomes essential to understand the context and its roots. 'Mandala' means 'circle completion' or 'containing' in Tibetan Sanskrit. While several religious traditions use it for meditations, forming it a holy space, it has also been known to achieve higher states of subconsciousness. Besides, psychoanalyst, Carl Jung called it - A representation of the unconscious self.

Mandalas, in the past, were considered sacred by Native Americans, Australian Aborigines, Hindus, and Buddhists. The holistic process takes several weeks for the achievement. The design starts from the center and takes shape, according to the purpose of the design. The colors used in Mandala mean certain emotions and feelings which are used for healing purposes. The Mandala art therapy has been used for healing, self-expression and relaxation purposes, bringing positive results. It includes meditation, creation of Mandala, and coloring process of the same.

The art also acts as a psychologist that speaks a lot about the emotional state of the person. So, if you want to calm yourself from the emotional storm that you're going through and be artistic at the same time, then Mandala is the key to it.
